Thailand. Rick Humphreys continues to catch massive Giant Freshwater Stingrays in Thailand's rivers. Rick sent us this report:
I have attached pictures of two GFS caught from the Ban Pakong River in Thailand on 13/03/2008.The first was measured at a width of 1.9m and estimated 140-150kg.The second one was caught after an epic 6 hour battle that saw fifteen anglers and locals take turns in winching the underwater dinosaur to the surface. The fish was measured at 2.2m and was estimated 180kg+. Rick's partner Wuttichai Khuensuwan was the initial captor in what was clearly a joint effort by the whole Fishsiam team. See the attached pics of the spiracle of a GFS so you can see the method used for securing these monsters. The fish was landed on a 100lb class chinglewtackle custom built rod and Shimano 2 speed TLD 30.
